Update #1- Suspicious death in Abbeydale

The suspicious death that occurred early this morning in the community of Abbeydale has now been deemed a homicide.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. today, Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, we were called to the 300 block of Abergale Drive N.E. for reports of a person in medical distress. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male.

Following an autopsy completed today, Friday, Aug.1, 2025, by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the death has been ruled a homicide and the victim has been identified as Carter SPIVAK-VILLENEUVE, 16, of Calgary.

“This is a deeply troubling file given the victim’s age,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Clark Budd of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “Our investigation is ongoing, and we urge anyone with information about Carter’s whereabouts, or information on who he may have been with last night to contact police or Crime Stoppers.”

We are also looking for the public’s assistance for any information regarding suspicious activity that may have occurred early this morning, Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, between midnight and 1:30 a.m. Residents in the area, specifically the 300 block of Abergale Drive N.E., are asked to check their property for anything suspicious and to share any dashcam or CCTV footage with police.
