Update - CTrain-related incident

At approximately 1 p.m. this afternoon, Tuesday, June 13, 2023, an individual boarded a CTrain at the Martindale LRT station, located at 889 36 St. N.E. Once on board, the individual produced a hatchet from underneath a heavy jacket. This individual then became very aggressive towards passengers on the train, waving the hatchet and uttering threats. No passengers were injured, but the window separating the driver from the passengers was broken.

Passengers were able to safely leave the train, but the individual continued to threaten both passengers from the train and passersby.

An individual driving by, witnessed this event and stopped to call 9-1-1. This individual then exited the vehicle and tried to subdue the attacker, until police arrived. Our officers arrested the individual with the hatchet, who was then transported to hospital by EMS. This individual is facing Criminal Code charges.

We would like offer our sincere thanks to Calgary Transit peace officers for their assistance and to the individual driving by, who by stopped, called 9-1-1 and helped us resolve this incident.
