Unprovoked attack prompts call for information

The Calgary Police Service is looking to speak with two individuals that may have information about a serious assault that occurred last week.

On Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, between approximately 8:25 and 8:40 p.m., a 34-year-old man was seriously assaulted by another man in what is believed to be a random attack. The assault occurred outside the Richmond Square Save-On-Foods, located at 3915 51 Street S.W.

Following the assault, the suspect fled northbound and was joined by another individual who was present for the assault but did not participate. A motive for the attack is still unknown.

The victim received significant facial and head injuries and was treated in hospital.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance to help identify two individuals that may have information about the assault. Photos of the individuals are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.
