Unintentional discharge of a firearm at Calgary Police Service district office

We are investigating the unintentional discharge of a Service-issued pistol at a Calgary Police Service district office.

At approximately 10:45 a.m. today, Sunday, March 23, 2025, an officer unintentionally discharged one round from their Service-issued pistol inside of the Calgary Police Service District 2 office, located at 4506 17 Ave. S.W.

Officers on scene determined there were no injured persons inside the office and that the bullet had travelled outside the building through a second-story window in a south-facing direction. This area encompasses the District 2 parking lot along 17 Avenue S.W. and the community of Glendale on the other side of the road.

Investigators thoroughly searched the area and conducted neighbourhood inquiries in Glendale to ensure there were no injured persons or property damage.

At this time, the bullet has not been located.

As per CPS policy, a General Investigations Unit was immediately called to the scene to gather and preserve evidence. The Professional Standards Section will review the incident to determine compliance with CPS policies.

As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details are available at this time.
