Undetermined death investigation update

The Calgary Police Service General Investigations Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding a body being discovered inside the walls of a downtown mall washroom.

Today, Monday, April 30, 2018, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police were called to a mall located in the 700 block of 3 Street S.W., for reports that a body had been found inside the wall of a 4th floor bathroom. At the time of the discovery, staff had been conducting maintenance in the washroom which required the removal of a panel that allowed access to the wall.

Despite the circumstances of where the body was located, investigators do not suspect foul play and the death remains classified as undetermined.

Police can confirm that the body located is an adult male, however, the victim’s identity and cause of death is still being determined. The Calgary Fire Department was called in to assist with the removal of the body. An autopsy will be scheduled once the body has been removed.

The investigation into when the victim died and how he ended up inside the wall is still ongoing.

There are no further details that can be released at this time.
