Two motorcyclists hospitalized following weekend collisions

Calgary police are reminding motorists to be cautious, following two collisions over the weekend that sent two motorcyclists to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, at approximately 2:15 p.m., a 58-year-old man was riding a 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on 130 Avenue S.E., approaching 46 Street S.E.

The motorcycle struck the concrete median and the rider was thrown from the bike, sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Just over an hour later, at 3:30 p.m., a 25-year-old man was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am south on Deerfoot Trail, about to exit on to Glenmore Trail.

While still in the far right lane, the Grand Am rear-ended a 2011 Suzuki SV650 motorcycle, operated by a 30-year-old man.  The motorcycle then hit the back of a 2011 Dodge Durango, driven by a 62-year-old woman, with four passengers inside.

As a result of that collision, the truck was pushed into a 2004 Toyota Camry, driven by a 17-year-old male, with one passenger inside.

After colliding with the motorcycle, the Grand Am also struck a 2008 Toyota RAV4 being driven by a 29-year-old woman.

The operator of the motorcycle was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the Grand Am was taken with minor injuries.

Neither speed, nor alcohol or drugs were believed to be factors in either collision.

This weekend’s incidents are a reminder that operators of any vehicle, whether a car, truck, or motorcycle, need to constantly be aware of their surroundings, including barriers and other vehicles that at times, may be difficult to see.

Investigations into both collisions continue.
