Two men charged, weapons and drugs seized in police investigation
Earlier this month, a proactive investigation led to the seizure of multiple weapons, including a firearm, and more than $59,000 in illicit drugs.
In May 2023, the Calgary Police Service began investigating a man who was believed to be involved in drug trafficking in the city’s northeast.
On Thursday, July 20, 2023, a search warrant was executed on two vehicles known to be associated to the suspect and a residence in the 5000 block of 22 Avenue N.E.
Items seized include:
· 64.8 grams of crack cocaine with a street value of $6,480
· 88.4 grams of fentanyl with a street value of $13,260
· 544 fentanyl pills with a street value of $10,880
· 317.9 grams of cocaine with a street value of $20,697
· 9.9 grams of oxycodone with a street value of $100
· 47 Xanax pills with a street value of $235
· 377 grams of psilocybin mushrooms with a street value of $7,511
· Five cell phones
· $1,730 cash
· Drug paraphernalia
· Brass knuckles
· Knives
· A machete
· A Kel-Tec SUB-2000 (9mm)
As a result, two men were arrested and charged.
Shane WILLIAMS-MARTELL, 25, of Calgary, has been charged with five counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of proceeds of crime and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.
Ashari EDWARDS, 22, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of proceeds of crime.
“We’re dedicated to taking action against drug traffickers operating in our communities,” says District 5 Acting Inspector Vince Hancott. “Successful investigations like this one keep dangerous drugs and weapons off of our streets and hold traffickers responsible for their actions.”
