Two men charged in serious assault

Two men have been charged after a stabbing that occurred early Monday morning in the southwest community of Marda Loop.

At around 5 a.m., Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, police were called to the 1500 block of 33 Avenue S.W., for reports of an injured man asking for help outside the residence. Upon arrival, police located a man suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds. He was transported to hospital in serious condition. The victim’s condition has since been upgraded to stable.

Investigators quickly worked to identify and circulate descriptions of the two suspects believed to responsible for the stabbing. Shortly after, two men matching the descriptions were located by District 2 patrol officers and taken into custody.

It is believed that a physical altercation broke out between the victim and the two suspects in relation to alleged stolen property, resulting in the two men stabbing the victim multiple times. The victim was able to escape the residence and flag down a passerby who then called police.

Later that same day, police executed a search warrant in the 1500 block of 33 Avenue S.W., where several metal pipes, fentanyl, methamphetamine and morphine pills with an approximate street value of $1,200 were located and seized.

As a result of the investigation, two people have now been charged.

Alexander Scott WAGAR, 38, of Calgary has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon.

Dakoda Lee Milner GARRETT, 35, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and three counts of breach of a release order.

WAGAR will next appear in court on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026.

GARRETT will next appear in court tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026.

Their quick response and thorough investigative work ensured that people were located and held accountable”, says District 2 Inspector Keith Hurley of the Calgary Police Service. “Vacant houses can very quickly become problem houses, attracting crime and putting the community at risk. Thanks to the diligent efforts of our officers, a serious incident was resolved, suspects were identified and arrested, and a significant public safety concern was addressed before it could escalate further.”
