Two men charged in co-ordinated investigation targeting firearms and drug trafficking
We have charged two men and seized approximately $70,000 worth of drugs, 11 firearms, several rounds of ammunition and cash as part of a two-month investigation into a man who was not abiding by his bail conditions.
In January 2025, our Gun Violence Enforcement Team (GVET) was made aware of a man who was believed to be breaching his court-imposed conditions by being in possession of firearms and conducting activity consistent with drug trafficking.
An investigation was launched and required co-ordination with several units from within the Calgary Police Service and with the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT).
As the investigation unfolded, it is believed several other individuals were associated to the man and additional suspects were identified as being involved in the ongoing criminal activity.
On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, GVET, along with the CPS Tactical Unit, Violent Crime Suppression Team, District 5 Operations Team, and the RCMP ERT, executed search warrants at four residences located in northeast Calgary and Airdrie. Police also searched four vehicles believed to be connected to the suspects.
Four men were arrested following the searches. Two men were charged, and two men were released without charges.
The following items were seized in relation to the first suspect:
- 10 electronic devices, including cellphones and computers
- Approximately 2.41 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine pressed into 4,000 tablets, worth an estimated street value of $48,000
- Approximately 224.1 grams of suspected cocaine, worth an estimated street value of $22,410
- Approximately 25.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine, worth an estimated street value of $2,550
- Seven tablets of Oxycodone, worth an estimated street value of $140
- 13 unknown pills
- 234 live rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition
- 11 unlawfully possessed firearms:
o CZ999 Compact, 9mm with 15-round magazine
o Taurus TH9C, 9mm with 17-round magazine
o Taurus G3, 9mm with 12-round magazine
o Taurus PT111 Millennium G2, 9mm with 12-round magazine, laser sight and rubber grip
o Taurus G2s, .40-calibre Smith & Wesson with six-round magazine
o Hi-Point C9, 9mm with magazine
o Springfield Armory XD-S, .45 ACP with seven-round magazine
o Walther PK380, .380 auto with magazine
o Ruger LCP, .380 auto with magazine
o Smith & Wesson M&P45, .45 auto with 10-round magazine and 10 live .45-calibre Hornady 45 auto cartridges
o FN 503, 9mm with magazine
As a result, Amanullah KHAN, 33, of Calgary, is charged with:
- 11 counts of unsafe storage of a firearm
- 11 counts of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
- Three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Five counts of breach of a release order
He remains in custody and will next appear in court on Friday, April 4, 2025.
The following items were seized in relation to the second suspect:
- Digital scales
- Drug packaging materials
- A small amount of suspected methamphetamine
- A small amount of suspected crack cocaine
- $270 in Canadian currency
As a result, Mohamed Nadjib MEDJADJ, 22, of Calgary, is charged with:
- Five counts of breach of a release order
- Two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
- Proceeds of crime
He has since been released from custody and will next appear in court on Friday, April 11, 2025.
An additional $5,610 in Canadian currency was also seized as part of the investigation.
“This was a co-ordinated effort involving several units from across the Service and with our partners at the RCMP to target ongoing drug trafficking activity in Calgary,” says Acting Staff Sgt. Jim Dalidowicz of the Calgary Police Service Organized Crime and Offender Management Section. “Several search warrants were executed as part of this investigation, and as a result, we were able to take 11 firearms off our streets and seize $70,000 worth of dangerous drugs to ensure they are not consumed by Calgarians.”
