Two men charged following northeast shooting
We have charged two people following a shooting that occurred in northeast Calgary earlier this month.
On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, a group of people were in the parking lot of the Genesis Centre at 7555 Falconridge Blvd. N.E. when they were confronted by two men.
As the incident escalated, one of the men who confronted the group pulled out a handgun and fired two shots at the group. One person received gunshot injuries and was taken to hospital by other members of the group in stable condition and has since recovered.
The two suspects fled the scene.
The incident was recorded by the recreation center’s security cameras. Police launched an investigation and on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 0-100 block of Templehill Crescent N.E. Following that search, police arrested two men.
Sohrab Rob RASHED, 34, of Calgary, is charged with:
- Discharging a firearm with intent
- Aggravated assault
- Careless use of a firearm
- Pointing a firearm
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
- Unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm
- Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Possession of a loaded, restricted firearm
- Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
Romal SIDIQI, 33, of Calgary, is charged with:
- Discharging a firearm with intent
- Aggravated assault
- Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
The accused and victim are known to each other and we believe the shooting stemmed from a previous conflict between them. This incident is not believed to be connected to recent cases of extortion-related shootings in Calgary.
“This was a reckless shooting, in a public space with many bystanders,” said Staff Sgt. Ray Kelly. “Gun violence continues to be a concern in Calgary and we are focusing on getting those guns off the streets, reducing victimization, and enhancing community safety.”
