Two charged, weapons and drugs seized in police investigation
Last month, a proactive investigation led to the seizure of multiple weapons, including an airsoft replica handgun, and more than $7,700 in illicit drugs.
In August 2023, thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip, the Calgary Police Service began investigating two people believed to be involved in drug trafficking in the city’s southwest.
On Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, a search warrant was executed at the Ambassador Motor Inn, located at 802 16th Ave. N.E., where two people believed to be associated with the investigation were seen driving stolen vehicles and staying in a room at the motel.
The following items were seized:
· 60.1 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of $3,005
· 4.3 grams of crack cocaine with a street value of $430
· 43.6 grams of fentanyl with a street value of $4,360
· $390 cash
· Two BMX-style bikes
· Airsoft replica handgun
· Knife
· Baton
As a result, two were arrested and charged.
Calvin MCKAY, 39, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of proceeds of crime, three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, eight counts of fail to comply with release order and six counts of possession of stolen property.
Brianna MANY BEARS, 23, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of proceeds of crime and three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
More charges in the investigation are forthcoming.
“Thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip, we were able to execute a successful investigation to keep dangerous drugs and weapons off of our streets and to hold traffickers responsible for their actions,” says District 1 Sgt. Derek Coffyne.
