Two charged in connection with 2016 homicide

The two men arrested yesterday in connection with the death of Harsimran Singh BIRDI have officially been charged.

Abdullah MELA, 21, of Calgary, has been charged with second-degree murder. He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017.

Nadar ABDULBAKI, 21, of Calgary, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017.

Charges are pending against two men in relation to the 2016 murder of Harsimran Singh BIRDI.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 7, 2016, police were called to the 9700 block of Harvest Hills Link N.E., for reports of a body laying in an alley. A man was found deceased.

The death was deemed to be a homicide and the victim was identified as 20-year-old Harsimran Singh BIRDI. It is believed this was a targeted incident.

Investigators sought assistance from the public in November 2017 in relation to this case.

Earlier today, Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, two people were taken into custody and charges are pending. Their names and specific charges will be released once they have seen a Justice of the Peace.
