Two charged after multiple failed carjackings

A man and a woman are facing a total of 17 charges after a spree of attempted carjackings in the city’s northeast.

At approximately 4:15 a.m., on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, a man was trying to drive out of the parking lot of a convenience store located at 5260 Falsbridge Gate N.E., when a dark-coloured, Ford F150 blocked his path. The driver of the F150 approached the victim’s car with what appeared to be a shotgun and assumed control of the vehicle. The victim fled from his vehicle into the nearby store. The suspect was unable to start the victim’s vehicle due to inability to operate a standard vehicle and left the area in the F150.

Approximately 30 minutes later, in the 0 to 100 block of Rundleson Way N.E., a woman was clearing snow from her vehicle when the F150 approached her. The woman quickly locked herself in the vehicle and fled in her vehicle when she saw the driver of the F150 approach her vehicle with a firearm.

Shortly after, at approximately 5:10 a.m., a man was sitting in his vehicle in the 6000 block of Pinepoint Drive N.E. Two people approached the vehicle, and a male carrying a shotgun demanded the victim exit the vehicle. The driver fled on foot and the male with the shotgun and a female entered the vehicle. The suspects were unable to start the vehicle and left the scene in the F150.

Officers located the F150 abandoned near the intersection of 26 Avenue N.E. and 56 Street N.E. The driver and passenger were not present, and the area was contained. At approximately 6 a.m., officers, with the assistance of the Canine Unit, located two suspects and took them into custody.
