Two Calgary men facing 31 combined charges after drugs and weapons seized during separate traffic stops

We have charged two Calgary men in two separate incidents where various drugs, cash and weapons were seized after police conducted traffic stops on two separate vehicles. 

On Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at approximately 2:45 p.m., police observed a vehicle travelling westbound on 74 Avenue at 21A Street S.E., at high rate of speed. A short time later, police observed the vehicle continue to speed through a school zone while heading westbound on 76 Avenue S.E.

A short time later, officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver was found to be in possession of two firearms which were located inside the vehicle. The driver was then taken into custody and charged.

Upon further search of the vehicle, the following items were seized:

  • Three scales
  • Two iPhones
  • $525 cash in Canadian currency
  • 40.6 grams of crack cocaine – approximate street value of $2,900
  • 18.1 grams of fentanyl – approximate street value of $452

As a result, Emmanuel Lokujo KUMI, 22, is facing twelve charges including possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited device, possession of a restricted firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and other related charges.

KUMI will next appear in court today, Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023.

Police have charged a Calgary man after seizing $37,445 worth of various drugs and other items from his vehicle earlier this month.

On Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, at approximately 1:15 p.m., police were called to the 300 block of Whitney Crescent S.E., for reports of a suspicious vehicle that was blocking a residential driveway. Upon arrival, police located an unconscious man in the driver’s seat. After successfully waking the driver, he was found to be in possession of a firearm and various drugs.

As a result, the following substances and items were seized:

  • Powder cocaine – 109.3 grams – street value $10,930
  • Xanax tablets – 44.9 grams – street value $750
  • Oxycodone pills – 84.4 grams – street value $4,220
  • Diazepam pills – 7.4 grams – street value $370
  • Crack cocaine – 19.5 grams – street value $1,950
  • Fentanyl – 128.5 grams – street value $6,425
  • Crystal meth – 10.1 grams – street value $200
  • Psilocybin – 89.5 grams – street value $1,790
  • Hydromorphone pills – 23.7 grams – street value $2,370
  • $8,440 cash in Canadian currency
  • Various forms of drug packaging
  • Two scales
  • Two cell phones

Darnell Jordan FOSTER, 35, of Calgary, is charged with:

  • One count of careless storage of a firearm
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • One count of possession of an unlicensed weapon
  • One count of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • One count of possession of a restricted firearm
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order
  • One count of possession of a firearm with a knowingly altered, defaced, or removed serial number
  • Two counts of possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • One count of possession of methamphetamines for the purpose of trafficking
  • Six counts of possession of other drugs for the purpose of drug trafficking
  • One count of proceeds of crime
     

FOSTER will next appear in court on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023.

“This incident is a solid example of why we always encourage citizens to report suspicious activity or behaviour,” says Staff Sergeant Mark Auger of the Calgary Police Service General Investigations Unit. “We were able to remove drugs, a weapon and a dangerous individual from our community. All Calgarians have a right to feel safe in our city. We thank the individuals who reported this concerning incident to us.”
