Three men charged in relation to methamphetamine trafficking

The Calgary Police Service has charged three people and seized approximately $75,000 worth of drugs as a result of an investigation targeting methamphetamine dealers in Calgary.

In February 2019, the Calgary Police Service recognized that a number of calls for service involving violent crime were occurring near a residence located in the 2400 block of 43 Street S.E. Police had also received numerous tips from community members alleging criminal activity relating to the same residence. As a result, detectives from the District 4 General Investigations Unit began investigating.

On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, police conducted a search warrant on two residences located in the 2400 block of 43 Street S.E., and took 20 people into custody. After additional investigative work, three individuals are now facing drug- and weapon-related charges.

The following items were seized during the search of the two residences:

  • 685 grams of methamphetamine
  • 47.2 grams of crack cocaine
  • 15.7 grams of powdered cocaine
  • 30 millilitres (6 vials) of GHB
  • Over a thousand prescription pills
  • Small amounts of heroin and fentanyl
  • $5,500 cash
  • Various weapons including two replica firearms, a collapsible baton, a taser and two large edged weapons

Richard Wayne LLEWELLYN, 52, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. LLEWELLYN will next appear in court on Wednesday, March 27, 2019.

Irvin Lee Frederick PALMER, 57, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and one count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. PALMER appeared in court today, Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

Raymond Edward Robert BENNETT, 27, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and six outstanding warrants. BENNETT will next appear in court on Thursday, April 4, 2019.

This investigation is ongoing and was initiated as a result the ongoing work of the Daylight Initiative to address the exponential growth of methamphetamine in our city.
