Three injured in balcony incident

The Calgary Police Service, in partnership with officials from The City of Calgary Planning and Development – Safety Response Unit, are investigating an incident where three men fell from a southwest balcony.

Emergency crews were called around 3:15 a.m., to a four-plex in the 1800 block of 23 Avenue S.W., for reports of three men who had fallen roughly 30 feet from the top unit after leaning against a balcony railing.

All three were taken to hospital with various injuries, including one who sustained a serious head injury. Non of the injuries is believed to be life threatening.

Detectives with the CPS Centralized General Investigations Section are working together with building inspectors to determine what may have happened prior to the incident, as well as to determine why the railing gave way.
