Three impaired driving collisions in three hours

We are reminding Calgarians about the dangers of impaired driving, following three separate collisions on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. 

The first occurred at around 7 p.m. along southbound Deerfoot Trail, between 24 Street and Barlow Trail S.E. Three vehicles were involved, including one that rolled onto its roof.  The driver believed to be responsible was treated for minor injuries and arrested for impaired driving. 

We are asking anyone who may have dashcam footage of this incident to contact us.

The second collision happened just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of 88 Avenue and 52 Street N.E. 

Once again, three vehicles were involved, one vehicle rolled, and one driver was arrested for impaired driving.

The third collision occurred at 10:20 p.m. at Centre Street N and 56 Avenue N.E.  Several vehicles were involved and a driver was taken into custody for impaired driving.

As of the end of April 2026, our officers have issued 761 immediate roadside sanctions and laid 32 Criminal Code charges for impaired driving.

Impairment is also believed to be a factor in one of the 11 fatal collisions in Calgary so far this year.  One fatal collision due to impaired driving is too many.

“The consequences of impaired driving can be devastating yet it is an entirely preventable crime,” says Inspector Rob Patterson with the CPS Traffic Section. “We are reminding Calgarians there is never an excuse to drive after drinking and encourage them to catch a ride with a friend, a taxi, or any rideshare option. 

If you spot a driver who may be impaired, call 911.  Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
