Three charged in forcible confinement and stabbing at SAIT CTrain station
Following a request for assistance in identifying several people believed to be connected to a serious assault at the SAIT CTrain station, three people have been arrested and charged.
To date, investigators believe that the victim arrived at the SAIT CTrain station with six people, who then confined the victim in a shelter on the platform and refused to let him leave. Some time later, they escorted the victim through the station to the stairwell connecting the CTrain station to the Jubilee Auditorium, where they physically assaulted the man. The victim remains in hospital.
Investigators have identified and arrested three individuals. Stacey SWAMPY, 23, was arrested on Friday, April 29, 2022, while Cornell BEARSPAW, 31, was arrested on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. They have both been charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault. BEARSPAW remains in custody and will next appear in court on Monday, May 16, 2022. SWAMPY remains in custody and will next appear in court on Thursday, May 19, 2022.
On Monday, May 9, 2022, Calgary Transit Peace Officers observed a potential suspect in this case at the Rundle CTrain station. Jonathan Edward ROSKEWICH, 21, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault. ROSKEWICH was released and will next appear in court on Monday, May 30, 2022.
Three other people believed to be connected to this incident have yet to be identified or located. Investigators are re-releasing photos of these three people in an attempt to further this investigation. This is believed to be a targeted attack, however, the motive and details of the relationship of the victim and the suspects remains under investigation.
“This cowardly attack left a man in serious condition and we are committed to finding everyone who played a role in this incident and holding them to account,” says Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm, District 3 General Investigations Unit. “We would like to thank our partners at Calgary Transit for their ongoing assistance in this investigation. CCTV obtained from Transit property, and the keen observation of Transit officers has been an invaluable asset in holding suspects accountable.”

Identity of assailants sought in stabbing at SAIT CTrain station
Thanks to the comprehensive Calgary Transit CCTV system, investigators have located images of several people believed to have been involved in the stabbing of a man at SAIT earlier this week and are seeking assistance from the public to identify them.
Just before 5:30 a.m., on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, police were called to the SAIT CTrain station for reports of a man in medical distress. The man was taken to hospital with significant injuries. Investigators have determined that a group of six men assaulted the victim in a stairwell connecting the Jubilee Auditorium and the SAIT CTrain station, located in the 1400 block of 14 Avenue N.W. The assault ended when one of the assailants stabbed the victim, and the suspects fled the scene on foot in various directions.
The victim made his way up the stairs to the CTrain platform where he utilized the emergency help button to call for help. Emergency services arrived and the victim was transported to hospital in serious condition. He was later upgraded to stable condition and remains in hospital.
It is not yet known whether the victim knew the assailants or if this was a random attack.
CCTV images of the suspects are being released in hopes of identifying them and are available on The City of Calgary's Newsroom.
