The City of Calgary unveils political parties’ answers to YYC Matters ahead of provincial election

The City of Calgary today released answers provided by the major provincial political parties about issues that affect Calgary’s future.

On March 11, The City of Calgary launched yycmatters.ca to inform Calgarians about four key priorities for our city and solicit answers from provincial election parties on those priorities: honouring commitments to Calgarians; supporting Calgarians; promoting economic recovery; and closing Calgary’s infrastructure gap.

“We know Calgary is key to our province’s future and we want Calgarians to have a clear picture of how those running to govern Alberta see Calgary-specific issues,” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “Today, we have some answers on that. The parties are now on the record for all Calgarians to see how they would address the needs of the province’s largest city.”

The YYC Matters website was updated today with the answers from political parties. Calgarians can assess for themselves how those looking to govern the province would act on Calgary matters and it gives provincial parties the opportunity to clearly define how they plan to address Calgary’s priorities and issues. Their answers are available here: yycmatters.ca

“It’s our hope citizens will be able to use the information on yycmatters.ca before they cast their votes,” said Mayor Nenshi.

Over the past month, yycmatters.ca has highlighted issues important to Calgarians including:

  • How new provincial investments in infrastructure can help ease the impact of our challenging economy by creating jobs and keeping communities safe and vibrant.
  • How The City is looking to the Province to support new tools and investments to help create a new and changed economy.
  • How the City is committed to working with the Province to make life more affordable for Calgarians.

The Province is key to Calgary’s future and the affordability, safety and opportunity experienced by all Calgarians.
