The City of Calgary opens reception centre in support of Jasper wildfire evacuees
The City of Calgary has opened its Emergency Operations Centre and activated its Municipal Emergency Plan in support of the Jasper fire evacuees. Today, at 11 a.m. The City of Calgary opened a reception centre at Shouldice Arena (1515 Home Road N.W.) to provide access to accommodations for evacuees and their pets, as well as mental health supports. There will also be spaces for recreation vehicles.
“Our doors are open to support those that have been displaced by this emergency in what I’m sure is a very difficult time,” said Chief Sue Henry, Calgary Emergency Management Agency.
“Our hearts are with those impacted, as well as all first responders who stayed behind to manage the emergency. We are all neighbours. We will make individuals feel as welcome as possible while they are here.”
While all evacuees are encouraged to register with the province, if accommodation is needed, individuals can come to the Calgary reception centre at the Shouldice Arena (1515 Home Road N.W.), from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today. Please check calgary.ca for the reception centre hours for tomorrow July 24. Parking for evacuees access the reception centre is free.
“This is a quickly evolving emergency, and we are willing and ready to provide additional supports as required,” says Chief Henry. “We understand the importance of working together and being flexible as the situation changes.”
While Calgarians are generous and want to help, The City cannot accept donations. Please continue to check the province’s website for recommended organizations to donate to or find a local campaign that you would like to support. Please do not bring any donations to the reception centre in Calgary. We are not set up to take donations and our focus is on helping with temporary lodging.

NOTE: At this time, The City cannot accommodate requests for media to go inside reception centres. To minimize the impact on already distressed evacuees, we would ask that you set up outside the reception centre. B-Roll opportunities for reception centre signage and parking signs will be available there.
