Teens charged in series of weapons-related and property-damage altercations
We have charged three teenage boys in relation to a series of dangerous altercations involving pellet guns, bats and significant property damage that occurred between Monday, Jan. 12, and Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, in northwest Calgary.
On Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at approximately 12:40 p.m., occupants of a grey vehicle allegedly fired multiple pellet rounds at a 2011 Mercedes‑Benz near Coventry Hills Drive and Covehaven Crescent N.E., shattering several windows and causing extensive damage.
Later that day, a resident in the 200 block of Sandstone Road N.W. reported a rock thrown through her vehicle’s driver-side window and pellet‑gun damage to two front windows of her home.
On Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, at 12:34 p.m., a driver travelling near Covehaven View and Coventry Hills Way N.E. reported that a white Audi SUV pulled alongside his vehicle. One occupant allegedly smashed both passenger‑side windows with a baseball bat, while another pointed what appeared to be a handgun before fleeing.
Later that afternoon, six youth exited a white Audi Q7 in the 100 block of Covebrook Place N.E. and smashed the front windows of a residence using bats and pellet guns.
At about 4 p.m. the same day, an older‑model beige four‑door sedan stopped in front of a residence in the 200 block of Bernard Mews N.W., where the driver and rear passenger allegedly fired semi‑automatic pellet guns at the home’s front window.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m., 11 pellets were shot through the windows of another home in the 200 block of Bernard Mews N.W.
At approximately 7:15 p.m. that same evening, a couple driving northbound on Deerfoot Trail reported that an older beige sedan drove aggressively beside them before two loud bangs were heard and their passenger‑side windows shattered. A brass pellet was later recovered from the vehicle.
At about 7:57 p.m., two youth approached a vehicle parked outside a 7‑Eleven on Fourth Street N.W., displaying what appeared to be firearms before fleeing in a beige sedan. The suspects then allegedly pursued the victims’ vehicle, firing multiple rounds as they drove through the area. No injuries were reported.
During the investigation, District 3 and District 7 patrol members gathered CCTV footage and statements from victims and witnesses. With the assistance of School Resource Officers, several individuals were identified and linked to an ongoing school‑related conflict.
On Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, two youth were taken into custody without incident.
A 17-year-old male has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, mischief to property and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026.
Another 17-year-old male has been charged with mischief to property and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. He will next appear in court on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026.
A third 17‑year‑old male was later identified and taken into custody on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026. He is charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, mischief to property, and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026.
The youths cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
“These incidents created significant risk to the public and caused fear and disruption in several communities. Thanks to the co-ordinated efforts of patrol, School Resource Officers and investigators across multiple areas of the Service, we were able to quickly identify those involved and gather the evidence needed to support the appropriate charges. Violence of any kind will not be tolerated, and our priority remains ensuring public safety and holding those who threaten the safety of our communities accountable,” says Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm of the District 3 General Investigations Unit.
Pellet/air‑gun safety concerns
Pellet/air guns are unregulated and can be freely purchased. Discharging an air gun within city limits is illegal. Using an air gun to threaten, intimidate or harm someone can also result in Criminal Code charges.

Numerous other suspects have been identified and the investigation remains ongoing.
