Suspicious activity investigation leads to seizure of drugs and weapons

A report of suspicious activity in the community of Prestwick led to the seizure of a firearm, a conducted energy weapon and more than $17,000 worth of drugs. One woman is facing 13 charges in connection with the incident. 

At approximately 3:40 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, officers responded to a report of a suspected car prowling in the 1100 block of Prestwick Close S.E. During a search of the area, officers located a vehicle bearing a mismatched licence plate and found a woman asleep in the back seat. Officers woke the woman, determined she was in breach of release conditions and took her into custody.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of:

  • A Churchill shotgun
  • Shotgun shells
  • A replica handgun
  • A conducted energy weapon
  • 147.5 grams of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of more than $17,000
  • Drug trafficking paraphernalia
  • Two cellphones
  • A number of items believed to be stolen property

As a result, Samara Marie ASTALNOK, 26, is charged with:

  • One count of possession of a prohibited weapon
  • One count of possession of an unlicensed weapon
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • One count of careless storage of a firearm
  • One count of tampering with the serial number of a firearm
  • One count of failure to comply with a release order
  • Three counts of possession of an identity document
  • Four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking

ASTALNOK is remanded in custody and will next appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about suspicious activity in the communities of Prestwick, New Brighton and Copperfield between the late evening of Sunday, Aug. 10 and the early morning of Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.
