Suspended driver charged with multiple offences

One man has been charged after recklessly evading police in the city’s northeast on the weekend.

At approximately 12:45 a.m., on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026, patrol members were conducting proactive patrols in the area of 96 Avenue N.E. and Stoney Trail N.E. when they observed a suspicious vehicle. It is believed that upon seeing the members’ marked patrol vehicle, the driver of the vehicle, a Ford F350, attempted to evade officers. The F350 drove the wrong way on the Country Hills Boulevard N.E. exit ramp to southbound Stoney Trail N.E. in an effort to avoid police engagement.  

The truck continued driving dangerously, passing patrol vehicles with activated lights, driving the wrong direction on Stoney Trail N.E., speeding through a construction site and driving on the median of Stoney Trail at speeds reaching 90 km/h. Members were able to safely stop and contain the truck. This posed a substantial risk to the public, forcing police to take immediate action and intentionally make contact with the vehicle to stop it.

As a result, Zeshan AHMAD, 32, of Calgary, is charged with:

· One count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
· One count of flight from a police officer
· One count of failing to comply with an undertaking
· One count of failing to comply with a release order
· Additional violations under the Traffic Safety Act

AHMAD will next appear in court on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026.

This incident resulted in the use of significant police resources and substantial damage to police vehicles. Thankfully, no officers or members of the public were injured.
