Suspect in custody for homicide in March

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit has one man in custody following an investigation into a homicide that occurred late last month.

At approximately 10:55 p.m., on Thursday, March 24, 2016, three men had a confrontation while exiting a liquor store located in the 15500 block of McIvor Boulevard S.E. During the confrontation, it is believed that one of the men punched another, causing the victim to lose consciousness and strike his head on the pavement.

The victim was transported to hospital in serious condition and later died from his injuries on Monday, April 11, 2016. Following the victim’s death, the investigation was upgraded from an assault investigation to a homicide investigation. This is Calgary’s fifth homicide of 2016.

The victim has been identified as Peter William NASSICHUK, 37, of Calgary.

Police now have a suspect in custody and charges are pending. The name of the suspect cannot be released until he has been formally charged before a Justice of the Peace.
