Suspect charged in early morning stabbing

As a result of quick response by Calgary Transit and Calgary police officers, the victim of a stabbing is in stable condition and one suspect has been charged.

Just before 5 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, a physical altercation occurred between a group of three men and a male victim on the Eighth Street CTrain platform. During the fight, one man held the victim down while another man stabbed the victim. The group then left the area while the victim made his way to the Calgary Transit help phone where he called for assistance.

Emergency services transported the victim to hospital in life-threatening condition. He has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Calgary Transit CCTV images of the suspect were disseminated to patrol officers who scoured the area and found the suspect believed to be responsible for the stabbing just before 7 a.m., in the 700 block of Eighth Street S.W. Search of the suspect located a small amount of fentanyl.

Investigators believe the individuals involved in this incident were known to each other.

Stacy Draven Sky SWAMPY, 25, of Calgary, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance. He will next appear in court on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023.

Police continue to search for two individuals who are believed to have been involved in the initial altercation. CCTV photos can be located on The City of Calgary Newsroom.
