Stolen bus damages multiple vehicles in northwest Calgary

A thief who stole a city bus has been taken into custody after damaging several vehicles in northwest Calgary.

Just before 6 p.m., today, Monday, May 18, 2020, Calgary Transit contacted police to report someone had stolen an unoccupied bus from the Lyons Park LRT station.

The thief proceeded to drive the bus through the communities of Briar Hill, Capitol Hill, along 16 Avenue between 10 Street and 29 Street N.W., near Foothills Hospital, along Parkdale Boulevard, onto 4 Street and Edmonton Trail before finally coming to a stop near Memorial Drive. Several unoccupied vehicles were struck along its path and police are asking victims to report any damage they may have received.

The suspect, a man in his 30s, was taken into custody at approximately 6:15 p.m., by the Canine Unit after a short foot pursuit and charges are pending. The name of the suspect will be released once he has seen a Justice of the Peace.
