Statement from the Family of Angela McKenzie

We are sharing the following statement on behalf of the Shaw Family.

Shaw Family Statement

It goes without saying that this has been an extremely difficult three months for our family, with the sudden tragic taking of Angela Shaw (nee McKenzie) just a few days ago and the passing of my brother Tyrel Shaw in February. There are no words that exist to sufficiently express the pain we are all feeling as a family or how this senseless tragedy has had a life-altering impact on our lives and on the lives of their five beautiful children.

This tragedy has brought us together as a family as we strive to process our grief and heartbreak. And while these wounds are still fresh, we are comforted in knowing that we are blessed by the legacy Angela and Tyrel left behind in their young family. Angela’s heart was for her family and especially her children, so as we mourn Angela and honour her legacy by surrounding the children with love, we ask for everyone to respect the privacy of the children and our family during this difficult time. Our main focus as a family unit is supporting and protecting the children and doing what is in their best interests.

We are humbled by the outpouring of support following the news of Angela’s death and want to thank everyone who has reached out and offered their sympathies, thoughts, and prayers. As well as all those who have supported the children through the GoFundMe page that was set up by the children’s uncle, Nolan Shaw. The money collected from the GoFundMe page will be used to directly support the children for their immediate needs as well as set up in trust for their future benefit. The level of support so far has been truly overwhelming. We thank you sincerely.

We also want to recognize the hard work and dedication from the Calgary Police Service. Angela was taken from this earth far before her time by a senseless act of violence in which she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and as a result of this heinous incident, there are five children who now have to live the rest of their lives with the pain of losing both of their parents in a three month period.  Those responsible have yet to be held accountable for their vile acts and reckless disregard for the safety of the general public. We ask anyone who has any information about the incident to please come forward and report this information to the Calgary Police Service.

Again, at this time we want to express our sincerest gratitude to everyone for their love and support, it is helping our family through this extremely difficult time, and ask for privacy for the children so they may grieve the loss of their parents as they need to.

We may submit another statement at a later date after we have more time to process our devastation by the shocking and sudden loss of our beloved Angela.
