Our Traffic Section is investigating a collision that occurred this afternoon in southwest Calgary, resulting in the death of a cyclist.

At about 3:40 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, we responded to a collision at the intersection of 17 Avenue S.W. and 101 Street S.W.

It is believed that a 2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, driven by a man in his 70s, was making a left turn from eastbound 17 Avenue S.W. onto northbound 101 Street S.W. At the same time, a male cyclist in his 40s, riding an e-bicycle, began to ride across 101 Street S.W. in the marked crosswalk, when he was struck by the Land Rover.

The cyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Land Rover was not injured and remained at the scene.

Alcohol, drugs and excessive speed are not believed to be factors in the collision.
