Single vehicle fatal collision

A single vehicle collision last night in the city’s northwest resulted in the death of the driver and serious injury of a passenger.

The collision occurred in the 10200 block of Tuscany Boulevard N.W., around 10 p.m., on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. A half-ton pickup truck was travelling eastbound towards a righthand curve in the roadway. The driver, a man in his mid-20s, failed to navigate the curve and drove onto the center median. The truck spun, struck a boulder, tipped over, crossed the opposing lanes and further rolled, coming to rest after striking a light standard.

The front seat passenger, a woman in her mid-20s, was extricated from the vehicle by the Calgary Fire Department and transported to hospital by EMS with serious injuries. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS.

Speed and alcohol are being investigated as contributing factors in this collision.

April is Speed Awareness month on the Alberta Traffic Safety Calendar. We are asking all drivers to drive with care as the weather warms and road conditions improve. The higher the speed, the more severe a collision can be. If you have consumed alcohol or drugs – do not drive.

Anyone who may have information, dashcam or home security footage about this incident is asked to contact the police non-emergency number at 403-266-1234.
