Single vehicle collision - Deerfoot Trail

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating a single vehicle collision that took place last night.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Monday, March 6, 2017, a 30-year-old man was driving a 2006 Pontiac Pursuit on Deerfoot Trail S.E., approaching the exit of Anderson Road and Bow Bottom Trail S.E.

The Pontiac attempted to move from the exit lanes to the through lanes of Deerfoot Trail by crossing over the snow covered divider.

The Pontiac struck a sign on the median between the exit lanes and the through lanes and left the road to the right, travelling through the ditch.

The Pontiac then struck the base of a lamp post causing severe damage to the front driver side of the vehicle.

The driver and lone occupant was extricated by the Calgary Fire Department and transported to the Foothills Hospital in life-threatening condition.

Speed and alcohol are being investigated as factors in this collision.
