Sexual assault charges laid against bar manager
We have charged one man with sexual assault after two incidents involving an employee and a potential employee occurred earlier this year.
In January 2025, the first victim attended a job interview at Fire N Ice, located at 854 16 Ave. S.W.
It is believed during the interview, the manager inappropriately touched the victim without her consent and temporarily prevented her from leaving the establishment. The victim was able to leave and contacted police to report the incident.
In April 2025, the second victim was out with friends at a downtown bar, when she encountered her manager, who was also at the establishment. While at the bar, it is believed the manager violated his position of authority and began exhibiting inappropriate behaviour towards the victim.
Later that night, the group of friends, including the manager went to a residence downtown. While there, the manager's behaviour escalated, and he allegedly touched the victim inappropriately and sexually assaulted her. She contacted police to report the incident the following day.
As a result of an investigation by our officers in District 1 and the Sexual Assault Investigative Unit, Ankit DRALL, 31, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of unlawful confinement.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, July 4, 2025.
“I want to thank the victims who came forward. We recognize how difficult that can be and the trauma involved,” says District 1 Staff Sgt. Paul Ralstin of the Calgary Police Service. “Their courage allowed us to advance this investigation. Sexual contact is never acceptable without clear, voluntary, and specific consent. Consent must come from a conscious, capable mind and can be given, withdrawn, or withheld at any time. We encourage anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual assault to report it—no matter how much time has passed.”
In Canada, there is no time limit on reporting a sexual assault. Anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual assault is encouraged to report it, even if many years have passed since the incident.
