Seven charged in drug-trafficking investigation

Seven people face nearly 30 charges following a three-day operation in the downtown core targeting street-level drug trafficking and the violence associated with it.

The joint operation between District 1 patrol and the Strategic Enforcement Unit began on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, and wrapped up on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018. As a result, 28 criminal code drug-related charges were laid, in addition to five summonses and three arrests for outstanding warrants.

“Drug trafficking happens in every community. Dealers are drawn to high-traffic areas where they can easily move around and have a perceived belief they are flying under the radar. Drug trafficking brings violence, social disorder and property crime to the community,” says District 1 Staff Sergeant Shawn Wallace. “We will continue to keep our community safe, while working with our partners to ensure those with addictions have the resources and supports they need to stop the cycle of drug abuse.”

Charges of trafficking methamphetamine, proceeds of crime, breach of recognizance and possession of an identity document were laid during this investigation. The accused are identified as:

  • Robert FRANCE, 37
  • Lee SHARPE, 48
  • Shawn SOKOLOWSKI, 46
  • Collette WOLFE, 28
  • Sean GUMMERSON, 37
  • Madison MORRISON, 25
  • James IVAN, 51
