Serious-injury collision under investigation

UPDATE: The pedestrian involved in this collision died on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026.  So far this year (as of Feb. 10, 2026), there has been a total of 3 fatal collisions. This is the first involving a pedestrian.

We are investigating a serious-injury collision that occurred yesterday afternoon in the southwest community of Upper Mount Royal.

On Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a 2024 Ford F-150, driven by a man in his 80s, was travelling southbound on 14 Street S.W. in the left lane, approaching Colborne Crescent S.W.

At the same time, a man in his 90s, who was using a mobility scooter, was crossing Colborne Crescent northbound in an unmarked crosswalk.

The truck made a left turn and struck the scooter, throwing the man from his seat. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford was not injured and remained at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. Impairment and speed are not believed to be factors.
