Serious-injury collision in city's southeast under investigation

Our Traffic Section is investigating a serious-injury collision that occurred this morning in the southeast Foothills area.

At approximately 8:45 a.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, a 2007 Peterbilt semi-truck and flatbed trailer, operated by a man in his 50s, was travelling northbound on 52 Street S.E. in the right lane, approaching 61 Avenue S.E.

At the same time, a 2007 Volkswagen Passat, operated by a man in his 30s with two passengers, was travelling southbound on 52 Street S.E. in the left turn lane.

It is believed the Volkswagen turned across the northbound lanes on a solid green signal, encroached into the path of travel of the semi-truck and was struck on the right side.

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured and remained at the scene. All three passengers of the Volkswagen were transported to the hospital. The driver and the rear passenger, a man in his 20s, suffered minor injuries. The front passenger, a man in his 30s, suffered life-threatening injuries.

Impairment, speed and road conditions are not believed to be factors in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
