Senior seriously injured in parking lot collision

We are investigating a serious pedestrian collision that occurred yesterday in the southwest community of Oakridge.

On Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at approximately 2:20 p.m., a silver Ford Escape, operated by a 90-year-old man, backed out of a stall in the parking lot of the Calgary Co-op, located at 2580 Southland Dr. S.W. The driver then accelerated forward suddenly striking a 71-year-old male pedestrian near the sidewalk.

The pedestrian was carried for a short distance and then fell onto the roadway as the vehicle slowed, coming to rest against a parked vehicle.

The pedestrian suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Ford was not injured and remained at the scene.

Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in this collision.
