Seeking public assistance in commercial robberies

We are seeking help from the public in relation to two commercial robberies that took place at a cannabis store in the northwest.

In both instances, one suspect entered the store while another remained outside to keep a look out.

On Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, shortly after 10 p.m., a suspect came into the Cancan Club Cannabis store located at the 1900 block of Kensington Road N.W. He walked up to the front counter, threatened the store clerk with a can of bear spray and demanded cash. When the clerk refused, the suspected walked behind the counter and lifted up his sweatshirt to show what the victim believed to be the handle of a handgun.

The victim opened up the till and the suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise before leaving the store and heading northbound toward 19 Street N.W., where he met a man that was waiting outside.

The suspect that entered the store is approximately 5’ 7” tall, with a medium build and was wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie, grey gloves, a black toque and black face mask.

The suspect that remained outside the store is approximately 6’ tall, with a slim build and was wearing a tracksuit.

On Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021, it is believed the same suspects returned to the store and carried out a similar robbery which was captured on CCTV. This footage is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

The suspect who remained outside the store had an air cast on and was holding crutches and also had a second air cast in a bag. CCTV footage shows both suspects walking away from the store. A witness saw both suspects in a nearby alley where the suspect who had entered the store removed his hoodie and put on his air cast. Both suspects then walked away from the area, using crutches. In addition to the same suspect details above, the witness reported that both suspects had beards.

Anyone who can identify the suspects in the videos or has information related to these robberies is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234.Tips can also be left anonymously with Crime Stoppers using any of the following methods:
