Seeking public assistance - Serious assault involving taxi driver and passenger

The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance in relation to a serious assault.

Just before 10 p.m., on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, police were called to an altercation between a taxi driver and his passenger at a gas station located in the 3100 block of Edmonton Trail N.E.

Officers arrived on scene to find one man in life threatening condition. He remains in hospital with his condition unchanged.

Investigators have established that the victim was struck in the head with a blunt object.

The driver of the taxi was arrested on scene.

Hintsa OQUBU, 40, of Calgary is charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of assault with a weapon.

His next court date is scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2019.
