Seeking public assistance - fatal pedestrian collision

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is seeking public assistance in relation to a fatal pedestrian collision.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, a 2004 Chevrolet Optra driven by an 82-year-old woman was exiting the parking lot of London Place West to go eastbound on Richmond Road towards 50 Street S.W. As she made the turn onto Richmond Road, she hit a 56-year-old man that was crossing the street.

The man fell to the ground and struck his head. He was assessed as having minor injuries and transported to hospital for precautionary reasons.

The driver sustained no injuries.

In hospital, it was determined that the man had a leg fracture which was operated upon. He later developed complications and succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, March 12, 2017.

The Medical Examiner’s office has determined that the man’s death was a result of injuries sustained during the collision.

Alcohol and speed are not considered to be factors in this collision.
