Seeking motorist witness in Bowness homicide

Police continue to investigate a domestic homicide in the community of Bowness and are looking for the public’s help to locate a possible witness. On Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, the body of Melissa BLOMMAERT was discovered at 34 Avenue and 79 Street N.W., at approximately 6 a.m., by a community member who immediately called emergency services.

After reviewing CCTV footage, investigators noted a vehicle was in the area of the homicide at approximately 5:30 a.m., and would like to speak to the driver about what they may have seen or heard.

The motorist is considered a witness only and is not suspected of any wrongdoing. We believe this witness may have crucial information that could assist homicide detectives.

The victim’s husband, Ronald CANDAELE, has been charged with second degree murder in the case.

“As with all homicide investigations, our detectives are doing everything they can to piece together what unfolded in the hours leading up to the death of the victim,” said Acting Staff Sergeant Ken Carriere of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “It is our duty to provide a thorough and complete investigation, and speaking to the motorist seen in the area will help to further our case.”
