Seeking assistance to identify sexual assault suspect

We are looking for the public’s help to identify a man who followed a woman in the city’s southeast and sexually assaulted her inside a store.

On Monday, May 17, 2021, at approximately 3 p.m., a woman was walking westbound on 17 Avenue S.E., near 36 Street, when she was approached by an unknown man. The man attempted to have a brief conversation with the woman, who declined and continued walking down 17 Avenue S.E. The man followed the woman into a store, located in the 3200 block of 17 Avenue S.E., where he began touching the victim in a sexual manner and making sexual gestures. Employees in the store called police and the man fled the scene.

Officers searched the area, however were unable to locate the suspect. After reviewing CCTV images and speaking to witnesses, investigators were able to determine a suspect description.

The man is described as 6’1” tall, approximately 25 years old, and was wearing black pants, a white shirt, a grey and black jacket with the letter ‘M’ on the left chest, a black baseball hat, black mask and white and black shoes. A photo of the man is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

Investigators are asking anyone who can identify the man to contact police by calling the non-emergency number at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
