Ring in 2020 with fun activities for everyone on New Year’s Eve

The City of Calgary has confirmed plans for New Year’s Eve 2020. Have you? Calgarians and visitors are invited to celebrate the new year with a fireworks display from the Calgary Tower at midnight.

“We are very happy to host another amazing fireworks show to ring in 2020. Wherever you are in the city, we hope you look up to see the spectacular sparks of colour light up the sky,” says Teresa Byrne, Superintendent of Arts and Culture. “Our partners contribute to the success of celebrations every year. Thanks to their continued involvement there will be free, low-cost, fun and exciting New Year’s Eve entertainment for Calgarians and visitors to participate in.”

Visitors can enjoy outdoor firepits, ice sculptures and, thanks to Tim Hortons, extended skating hours at Olympic Plaza. For more outdoor activities head to Bowness Park for firepits and extended hours until 1 a.m. or drive by or walk through the Lions Festival of Lights at Confederation Park. Make sure to dress for the weather.

For indoor fun, play, swim, jump, splash, slide, and skate into 2020 at Southland or Village Square Leisure Centres from 6-8 p.m. Stay until 8 p.m. and enjoy the pool party countdown.

For free indoor activities downtown, check out the Central Library’s family party from 12-4 p.m. or Studio Bell’s New Year’s Eve Family Bash from 5-9 p.m. with free activities on the first floor. There are many other events happening downtown and throughout the city. To find out more visit Calgary.ca/NYE, CalgaryDowntown.com and VisitCalgary.com.

If you plan to be warm and indoors at midnight, you can watch a livestream of the fireworks at Calgary.ca/live.
