Retraction – Fatal pedestrian collision 79 Street and 47 Avenue N.W.

At approximately 8 p.m., on Friday, May 6, 2016, a four-year-old girl was walking south on 79 Street and 47 Avenue N.W., with her family and their dog. At the same time, a 2015 Ford F150 was traveling west on 47 Avenue.

Attending officers were initially advised by witnessed that one of the parents of the victim had waved the vehicle through the intersection prior to the collision. This information was inadvertently released to the media without verification. The subsequent investigation could not confirm this fact and the origin of the information could not be traced. The Calgary Police Service apologizes to the Toulon family for the release of this information.

The resulting court case against the suspect was later withdrawn by the Crown.

We are aware from media reports that civil proceedings are under way concerning the cause of the collision itself. CPS will not be commenting further on this issue.

Charges in fatal collision - May 2016

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section has charged a woman in relation to a fatal collision that occurred in May.

At approximately 8 p.m., on Friday, May 6, 2016, a four-year-old girl was walking south on 79 Street and 47 Avenue N.W., with her family and their dog. At the same time, a 2015 Ford F150 was traveling west on 47 Avenue.

Witnesses had stated that the female driver of the Ford F150 had initially stopped and then slowly proceeded through the intersection at the same time that the child ran across 47 Street into the path of the vehicle. The child was struck by the Ford, resulting in fatal head injuries.

Alcohol or speed were not factors in the collision.

Tanis LAMBERT, 38, of Calgary, is charged with careless driving and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

She will appear in court on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016.
