Remaining Unofficial Results – Oct. 18, 2021 General Election

The power cord for the tabulator was not secured to the tabulator, resulting in a draw on the tabulator’s battery power. Although the battery is long lasting, it is standard procedure to ensure power is maintained at 100 per cent. As a result, the auxiliary slot was used until the power cord was properly secured to the tabulator. Earlier in the day, the ballot box was not properly constructed. If the ballot box is not constructed properly and the auxiliary slot is used, there is a potential for unprocessed and processed ballots to be mixed.

To ensure that all ballots inserted into the auxiliary slot were counted, all ballots were required to be processed after 8 p.m. on Election Day.

At midnight, results for this voting station were still being processed. Elections Calgary suggested that the election workers secure their ballots, shut down the tabulator and transfer these items to the Elections Calgary Counting Centre with the intent of re-processing the ballots from this voting station the morning of Oct. 19, 2021 through a high-speed tabulator. After this message was delivered, election workers were able to successfully tabulate voted ballots and close their voting station.

Results from voting station 411 were uploaded to the results cumulation software (which streams unofficial results to Calgary.ca) the morning of Oct. 19, 2021.

In keeping with standard procedure, following the close of voting stations 107 and 401, the results were successfully generated at the voting stations, including a results tape. Due to a technical issue with the tabulators’ memory sticks, the results were unable to be uploaded to the results cumulation software. The unofficial results from the results tapes will be manually entered into the results cumulation software the morning of Oct. 19, 2021 and subsequently streamed on Calgary.ca. In addition, to ensure transparency and integrity of the process, all marked ballots from voting stations 107 and 401 will be re-tabulated through a high-speed tabulator the morning of Oct. 19, 2021. Candidates or their scrutineers have been invited to this process.

All results are still unofficial until certified by the Returning Officer by noon on Oct. 22, 2021.
