Rare comic books stolen in robbery

A targeted robbery last week left a man with minor injuries and has resulted in three rare comic books, worth approximately $50,000, being stolen. The comics are easy to identify and police are asking the public to keep an eye out for someone trying to sell them.

At approximately 8 p.m., on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, a man was leaving Alpha Comics, located at 7005 18 Street S.E., with the comic books in a briefcase. Two men grabbed the victim from behind and tried to take the case. During the struggle, the victim was thrown to the ground and received minor injuries.

The men ran to a nearby vehicle, but then fled the scene on foot when they realized the victim was still watching them. Our officers immediately responded and secured the vehicle. The vehicle owner later returned to the scene and was arrested, but a second suspect has not been identified and the comic books have not been recovered.

The missing comic books are described as:

  • Fantastic Four #1 with a CGC number of 2074628001 and grade of 6.5
  • Fantastic Four #2 with a CGC number of 2041541001 and grade of 5.5
  • Fantastic Four #13 with a CGC number of 204154003 and grade of 4.5

Rifahie AL-RIFAHIE, 20, of Calgary is charged with one count of robbery in connection with this incident.
