Public Awareness: Stolen CPS badge

The Calgary Police Service is alerting the public about a CPS badge that was stolen from a vehicle parked at a hiking trailhead outside Canmore on the weekend.

At approximately 2 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, an off-duty CPS officer returned to their vehicle parked at the Yamnuska Trail parking lot, to find the vehicle had been broken into and a number of items were missing, including a CPS badge. It is believed the car prowling occurred some time between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The badge will have regimental number #5296 engraved on it.

Anyone with information about the theft or location of the badge is asked to contact the Canmore RCMP non-emergency number at 403-678-5516.

Members of the public who are unsure of the validity of a police officer are encouraged to ask to see visible identification with a photograph or call either 9-1-1 or the Calgary Police Service non-emergency number 403-266-1234, to confirm the officer’s identity.
