PSA: Municipal Complex Plaza closure for electrical repairs

Through late March and early April, The City of Calgary will be repairing electrical wiring and lighting fixtures in the Municipal Complex Plaza. This work requires the Plaza to be closed off to the public for approximately three weeks, from March 21 until April 9 inclusive.

The layout of Municipal Plaza as it stands today was established in the 1980s. The current lighting and electrical wiring is original to this time, making it over 35 years old. As the infrastructure ages and is exposed to the elements, wiring embedded within the concrete needs to be life cycled.

The Municipal Building will remain open during these repairs. Accessible entry to the Municipal Building will not be impacted by construction, with at least one ramp remaining open at all times. The Plaza will be closed to public bookings for the three-week period. Media are welcome to continue using open space in front of the Municipal Complex front doors or Historic City Hall for interview purposes, as required.

Repairs to the electrical and lighting systems in the Plaza will help keep this area an accessible and safe space, regardless of time of the day it’s being used. We thank everyone for their increased diligence and cooperation while this important work is completed.
