Prolific offender arrested

We have arrested a repeat offender following a vehicle theft over the weekend.

On Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police received an automated alert that an ankle monitoring bracelet assigned to a prolific offender had been cut off.

Approximately 45 minutes later, officers found the discarded bracelet in a parking lot in the 100 block of 25 Ave. S.W., and later learned a 2012 Jeep Wrangler had been stolen from the same location.

By the following afternoon, Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, police had determined the whereabouts  of the suspect and arrested him following a traffic stop conducted on Barlow Trail N.E., shortly before 6:16 p.m.

Brandon David STEVENS, 32, of Calgary is charged with:

·        Seven counts of failing to abide by a release order

·        Three counts of breaching a conditional sentence order

The Prolific Offender Engagement Team (POET) is responsible for identifying, investigating, and actively managing offenders who demonstrate a persistent pattern of criminal recidivism within the City of Calgary by incorporating offender engagement strategies to address the root causes of their criminality.

"The Electronic Monitoring Program along with POET is there to ensure criminals with a likelihood of reoffending do not get that opportunity," said Sergeant Ryan Johnson of the Calgary Police Service. “In this case, a prolific offender was back in custody less than 24 hours after their monitor was removed, preventing him from victimizing the community.”
