Police investigating downtown robberies

We are investigating a series of personal robberies that have taken place over the past two days.

On Monday, May 10 and Tuesday, May 11, 2021, six personal robberies reportedly took place in Calgary’s downtown core. All the robberies took place between 2 and 10:30 p.m. on both days.

In each instance, a man approaches a female victim, shows a knife, and then robs the victim of cash, their wallet or their purse. The majority of the robberies have taken place on the downtown LRT platforms or along  8th Avenue S.W., with one incident in the Beltline near 12 Avenue and 11 Street S.W.

The man involved is described as being of average height with a slim build. In each incident, he was wearing dark clothing, had his head covered, and was wearing a surgical mask or red bandana over his face.

We are actively investigating these incidents. Although no one has been injured, we want to make citizens aware.

If you are approached by this individual, please call 911 for police assistance.

We are looking to speak with anyone who may have information on the identity of the person responsible for these robberies. Anyone with information is encouraged to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously through the following methods:
