Police seize drugs, weapons and contraband during transit related arrest

We have charged one man after seizing drugs, weapons and contraband tobacco during a proactive enforcement operation conducted in partnership with Calgary Transit Peace Officers.

On Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at approximately 6:52 p.m., members of the Calgary Police Service Community Engagement Response Team (CERT) were assisting Transit Peace Officers with a co-ordinated fare‑enforcement initiative at the Rundle CTrain platform. As several individuals exited an outbound train, Transit officers conducted routine fare checks.

It is believed one man presented an expired transfer and subsequently provided a false name, prompting the CPS assistance for identity verification. He was arrested for obstruction and was confirmed to have had 11 outstanding warrants. Upon his arrest, he was confirmed to be in possession of:

3.9 grams of suspected crack cocaine (approximate street value $360)
$185 in assorted Canadian currency
A digital scale
Small plastic baggies
A collapsible baton
A folding box cutter
A can of bear spray
Two unopened cartons of unstamped cigarettes

As a result, Dayton Cory BAPTISTE, 32, of Calgary, has been charged with:

Four counts of failure to comply with an undertaking
One count of possession for the purpose of trafficking crack cocaine
One count of possession of the proceeds of crime
One count of defrauding the provincial government under $5,000
One count of possession/transport of unstamped tobacco
Three counts of carrying a concealed weapon

He was additionally issued a fare‑evasion summons by Transit Peace Officers. BAPTISTE will next appear in court today.
