Police seeking information in relation to fatal collision

We are seeking information from the public in relation to a three-vehicle collision that occurred last week at the intersection of Blackfoot Trail and 85 Avenue S.E.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, a 2007 Subaru Forester was traveling west on 85 Avenue S.E., turning left onto southbound Blackfoot Trail S.E. on a green light.

As it made the turn, the Subaru was struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, being driven by a 48-year-old man, that was traveling north on Blackfoot Trail S.E. through a red light. The Subaru then hit a 2017 Ford Escape, driven by a 49-year-old woman, that was waiting to turn left from southbound Blackfoot Trail onto 85 Avenue S.E.

Both the Subaru and the Chevrolet sustained extensive damage. The Subaru driver, a 72-year-old woman, was transported to hospital where she later died.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision. The Chevrolet driver running the red light is considered a major factor in the collision.

We are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the collision and are asking them to call the non-emergency number at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously through any of the following methods:
